SwapAnHour creates a cashless community
With a growing number of members joining its online community in only a few months, SwapAnHour is the latest app driving a social impact in Australia.
Launched in mid-2018 by IT professional, the free app platform encourages members to use their time as currency; swapping their skills and goods with others to foster the spirit of community. No money exchanges hands.
“You ‘bank’ hours when you help a swapper,”. “In return, you can use that time with another swapper.” “For example, you might be good at gardening. You can give time to help me with my garden. In return, you might ask someone else within the SwapAnHour community to fix your computer using the hours you’ve ‘banked’. You swap the skills or goods you have for the skills or goods you need.”
SwapAnHour’s currency is time and doesn’t discriminate by the market value of skills or goods. “Our connected world is driven by money, but what if it became more time-focused?”.
“We all have skills and we all have time. SwapAnHour connects real people within their local community under terms of fair trade. Helping someone with your time, energy, and skills doesn’t just make the world better. It also makes you better.”
Apart from building a community filled with good will, the app also promotes positive mental health, self-worth, and value.
“Like the old Chinese proverb says; If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody,”.
The free SwapAnHour app is available on both Apple and Android devices.
